An opportunity has presented itself for us to possible adopt an 8 month old husky for $75 or to adopt 2 for $100 total. They are litter mates. I have always wanted a husky and Brandon agreed that the next dog we got I could pick out and that we could get a big dog (his terms are that it has to be at least somewhat fluffy. lol). With us thinking about me going back to school in December, I'm not sure how the expenses will be to add another dog into our life, and about the stress of further training the dog(s). I have never had an opportunity like this before, so I am wondering if this is finally my chance. The owners need to have a new home for their dogs by September 1st or they will have to take them to the Humane Society. The Humane Society will cost at least $200 per dog if you were to adopt from them. The current owners are moving and can't take the dogs with. They also have not "fixed" the dogs, so that would be something we would have to pay for pretty much right away if we did get them, and that can be kinda spendy. I'm not sure what to do. I feel like it's something that I've always wanted and I finally have a chance that I will likely never get again. But I also feel like it's something that I should probably wait on because of me going back to school and possible expanding our family in the next year...I'm just not sure what to think...Thursday, August 26, 2010
To get a dog/dogs, or not to get a dog/dogs....

so, we have decided and we will attempt to get the female, Briska, so long as she is up to date on all her shots. right now i am just waiting to hear back from the person that is trying to rehome her. i hope it works out. i am supposed to be able to get together with them on saturday to meet the dog and see how our dogs interact as well as how she reacts to having a 2 year old around (the current family has a 3 month old, and as you all know, a 3 month old and a 2 year old are VERY different). i hope it all goes well. i just keep waiting for her to get back to me (hard to get internet because she is in the process of moving). each time i get a new e-mail i'm like "oh! is it her?!" lol
ReplyDeleteOh, I guess I should have updated on this. Yes, we did get her. Her name was Briska but we have renamed her Sasha. When we got her home we found out she was infested with fleas. :( She had them so bad that she had scabs all over her body and would whine when we didn't let her scratch. She is doing better and has gotten to a healthy weight (they obviously hadn't been feeding her enough since she gained about 25 lbs in the first month of having her). She has adjusted into our family pretty well and we have adjusted to her as well. :)
